NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R is H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylcarbonyl, phenoxy; n is 1W4).
EXAMPLE: 1-Hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinone.
USE: An intermediate of medicines.
PREPARATION: An amino compound of formula II is oxidized with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst selected from the systems containing tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium or copper in an inert solvent, preferably soluble in water, particularly a lower alcohol at -20W100°C, preferably -10W60°C to give a compound of formula I.
