PURPOSE: To make it possible to autonomically adjust a transmission quantity of light by preparing a compsn. formed by dispersing flat particles exhibiting affinity with a liquid crystal into the liquid crystal.
CONSTITUTION: The flat shaped particles are randomly oriented and dispersed and the orientation of the liquid crystal molecules is regulated by orientation of the flat particles when the liquid crystal compsn. is placed at an intermediate temp. of the crystal phase-liquid crystal phase transition temp. and the liquid crystal phase-isotropic phase transition temp. A cell, then, attains the light scattering state of the low light transmission quantity shown by A. The liquid crystal in the liquid crystal compsn. is crystallized when the room temp. falls and attains the crystal temp. by falling under the crystal phase-liquid crystal phase transition temp. In such a case, the orientation of the flat particles is the same but all the liquid crystal molecules are oriented in the specified direction and the light transparent state of the high light transmission quantity is attained. Consequently, the room temp. rises to exceed the crystal phase- liquid crystal phase transition temp. and the light scattering state is restored. Namely, the room temp. is maintained within the specified range by autonomically changing the light transmission quantity in accordance with the change of the room temp.
