Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a method for ashing and vitricating a radioactive waste containing a sulfur compound, in which a radioactive nuclide, in the form of ash, is taken into a glass basic material, and a sulfur compound in waste gas is taken into a gypsum based basic material.
CONSTITUTION: A waste is fed to a melting furnace 10 containing a molten glass 26 where the waste is ashed and vitricated and a radioactive nuclide, in the form of ash 22, is taken into a glass base material. Produced waste gas is burnt at a plenum section 28 on the molten glass in a stay time of at least 3sec. A sulfur compound in the combustion gas is brought into contact with an aqueous solution and calcium hydroxide and taken into a gypsum basic material.
