Abstract:

PURPOSE: To easily produce a composite reinforcing material contg. a fine particle-shaped reinforcing material disposed with a gradient and used for producing a functionally gradient metal-based composite material with a fine particle- shaped reinforcing material.

CONSTITUTION: Heat resistant inorg. fibers are dispersed in water contg. an inorg. binder and they are dehydrated, compacted, dried and fired. A suspension or soln. of a fine particle-shaped reinforcing material or its precursor is absorbed in the resulting porous compact of fibers, the dispersive medium or solvent is evaporated from a specified region in the surface of the compact to carry out drying and then the compact is fired.
