PURPOSE: To enable the formation of projecting and recessed parts excellent in wear resistance and slip resistance and to prolong the life of roll by forming the profile of roll surface by a continuous recessed part and smooth projecting parts.
CONSTITUTION: It is favorable to be a smooth face whose surface roughness is smaller than a prescribed value to prevent the generation of flaws since the projecting parts 16 on the roll 1 of the transporting roll are brought into contact with a metallic strip. And the smooth faces of these projecting parts are on the same circumferential face and in contact with the metallic strip uniformly. The recessed part 17 is continuous, atmospheric gas is not sealed in the recessed part 17 and held without dropping the surface pressure between the roll and the metallic strip. It is favorable to take the height (d) of the smooth face of the projecting part from the recessed part by ≥10μm. Even when the projecting and recessed parts are directly made on the base metal of roll, the effect is not different but the projecting and recessed parts may be formed on a hard plated layer besides chromium plating. The surface pressure to these projecting parts is smaller compared to that of dull-finished projecting parts the height of the peaks of which is not uniform wear is small and the life of roll is prolonged.
