PURPOSE: To correspond to the character broadcasting by providing a character broadcasting decoding circuit reproducing the video disk recording character addition information by means of data format to be used for teletext broadcasting and a screen display means.

CONSTITUTION: A character information signal (g) is waveform formed by a waveform forming circuit 81, processed by a signal processing circuit 82, stored in a memory circuit 83, and turned to be a character broadcasting data signal (s), then replaced by a character video signal by a decoding circuit 85. A subcode data signal (e) outputted from an EFM decoder is inputted to a memory circuit 84, and the stored character information signal is controlled by a controller 86, and a signal (p) separating a control signal and a data signal is outputted to the circuit 85. At this point, as each signal has the same format, the video disk and the character information by broadcasting can arbitrarily be selected by switching a switch 87.
