PURPOSE:To efficiently remove and collect zinc by heating scrap of galvanized steel sheet in a vacuum treatment furnace, evaporating the galvanized layer, and introducing the evaporated zinc into a collecting chamber in the atmosphere of highly reduced pressure and low temperature to suppress oxidation of the surface of scrap of steel sheet. CONSTITUTION:Scrap of the galvanized steel sheet which is preheated at the prescribed temperature is stored in a basket 32, and intermittently moved to a supply zone 12 and dezincing zone 14 of a vacuum treatment furnace 10 by a means 34. The supply zone 12 and the dezincing zone 14 are held in the atmosphere of specific high temperatures, respectively and in the process where the basket 32 is moved within the dezincing zone 14, the preheated scrap of steel sheet is heated to high temperature by heating means 40, 42, and zinc on the surface is evaporated. The evaporated zinc is introduced into a zinc collecting chamber 46 which is in the atmosphere of more highly reduced pressure and lower temperature than the vacuum treatment furnace 10 through an introducing passage 48, and solidified and collected. By this constitution formation of the oxide layer on the surface of the scrap of the steel sheet is suppressed, thorefore scrap of steel sheet of good quality is obtained and zinc is efficiently collected as by-product.
