PURPOSE: To provide a VTR for recording and reproducing a television signal, to which a reinforce signal is added, while separating the reinforce signal and a PAL signal or a SECAM signal.

CONSTITUTION: This signal is provided wish a first changeover switch 103 for switching a television signal outputted from a reinforce signal/television signal separator circuit 107 and a television signal inputted from an input terminal 105, first magnetic heads 19 and 20 for recording a signal, for which the signal from the first changeover switch 103 is converted to a waveform suitable for recording, in a magnetic tape 17 and second magnetic heads 21 and 22 for recording a signal, for which the reinforce signal outputted from the reinforce signal/television signal separator circuit 107 is converted into a waveform suitable for recording, and a track recorded by the first magnetic heads 19 and 20 and a track recorded by the second magnetic heads 21 and 22 are alternately recorded on the magnetic tape 17.
