PURPOSE: To provide a facsimile equipment which makes possible the sound recording input of an answering message for automatic answering, reproduces and outputs a message from an origination side, automatically switches the gain of a speech message signal, outputs a signal tone in communication from a monitor speaker during a facsimile communication, and outputs a speech message indicating that the communication is in process from a handset.

CONSTITUTION: When the handset 6 is lifted to put the equipment in the off-hook state, a hook switch 3 is switched to the side of a speaking circuit 5 and an operation display part 9 inputs the reproduction indication of an operator's speech message; and a system control part 15 turns ON a switch E on the basis of the reproduction indication of the operation display part 9 to supply a current from a current supply circuit 21 to the speaking circuit 5, and sends out the origination-side speech message reproduced by a sound recording and reproducing circuit 13 to the handset 6 through a modem 12 and a high- impedance transformer 18, so that the recorded speech message is outputted from the handset 6.
