Abstract:
The optical frequency conversion element has a wave-guiding layer which consists of chi <(2)>-active ferroelectric liquid crystal. The monomer or polymer liquid-crystal material has a periodic structure which permits the so-called quasi-phase matching of a conducted laser beam. The periodic length of the structure corresponds in this case to twice the coherence length lc = eta / DELTA beta of the material, where DELTA beta = beta 0(2 omega ) - 2 beta 0( omega ) with omega = angle of frequency of the fundamental, 0 = mode of zero order and beta =propagation contact of the mode.
