PURPOSE: To facilitate the positioning of a sheet in different directions by selectively controlling the rotation and the like of any of two roller assemblies which are rotatable around predetermined axes, and a third roller assembly which is rotatable around a predetermined axis and which is axially movable.
CONSTITUTION: In a sheet registration mechanism in a printer or the like, a sheet is positioned in a plurality of orthogonal directions, that is, correction for a skew direction and positioning in a crosswise direction and a transfer direction, and incorporates a first, a second and a third roller assembly 12, 14, 16. The roller assemblies 12, 14 are composed of urging rollers 24, 34 attached respectively to shafts 20, 32 which are supported rotatably on one and the same axis, and are adapted to be rotated by step motors M1, M2, respectively. Further, the third roller assembly 16 is composed of a pair rollers 48 fitted to a movable pipe 42 surrounding the shaft 20 and is moved by a step motor M3 through the intermediary of a belt assembly 50.
