Abstract:

PURPOSE: To solve such a problem about a capacity shortage at light load discharge as inherent to a dry battery manufactured with an electrolytic manganese dioxide used for a positive electrode, by mixing chemically synthesized manganese dioxide with carbon fiber for use as a positive electrode.

CONSTITUTION: Manganese oxide (Mn2O3, Mn3O4) obtainable from the calcination of manganese sulfate is treated with sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid and the mixed acid thereof, thereby preparing the powder of chemically synthesized manganese dioxide (CMD) mainly composed of γ type. This powder is mixed with carbon fiber manufactured with a gaseous phase synthesizing method as conductive materials, thereby forming a positive electrode 3. Also, an electrolyte mainly composed of zinc chloride may be used, or an alkaline electrolyte may be used to manufacture a dry battery.
