Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an apparatus and a method by which a tire-surface rubber thickness can be measured with high accuracy and automatically by pressing a thickness measuring head part to the outer circumferential face of a tire so as to be freely brought close to, and separated from, in the radial direction. CONSTITUTION: A thickness measuring head part 3 in which a displacement sensor 1 is arranged and installed between one pair of rollers 2, 2 is installed, and a back-and- forth driving means 6 by which the head part 3 is pressed to the outer circumferential face 5 of a stand tire 4 for regeneration so as to be freely brought close to, and separated from, in the radial direction is installed. The sensor 1 is attached to the central part of a support shaft 20 which is fixed and bonded to a mounting member 19 in such a way that the separation interval between the outer circumferential face 5 of the tire 4 and the tip face 1a of the sensor 1 can be adjusted finely and freely. And, accompanying the rotation of the tire 4 in the measuring work of a tire outer circumferential length, a tire-surface rubber thickness is measured by the sensor 1 at a prescribed pitch in the circumferential direction of the tire 4 or continuously in the circumferential direction. Whether the rubber surface thickness measured in this manner is within a tolerance or not as the tire 4, is judged.
