Abstract:
A ganglioside GM3 derivative having a fluorine atom at the 9-position of sialic acid represented by the formula: wherein R is an aliphatic lower acyl group, R<1> is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R<2> to R<5> represent independently of one another a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic lower acyl group or an aromatic acyl group, R<11> is an straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, and n is an integer of 0 to 20, provided that when R<1> is a hydrogen atom, R<2> to R<5> are hydrogen atoms, or when R<1> is a lower alkyl group, R<2> to R<5> are each an aliphatic lower acyl group or an aromatic acyl group, and intermediates therefor. This compound is useful as an agent for preventing infection of the influenza virus, an agent for preventing proliferation and metastasis of the cancer cells, etc.
