PURPOSE: To enhance the O/W(overlapped writing) characteristics by a method wherein the title magnetic powder for magnetic recording mainly comprising ferrite in a platy-shape having crystalline anisotropy is to be respectively provided with specific coercive force and residual coercive force.
CONSTITUTION: This magnetic powder for magnetic recording mainly comprising ferrite in a platy-shape having crystalline anisotropy is to be provided with the specific coercive forces (Hc) satisfying the following inequalities i.e., 200 Oe≤Hc≤3000Oe as well as O<(Hr-Hc)/(Hc)1/2≤7 (where Hc and Hr respectively represent the coercive force of the magnetic powder and the residual coercive force of the same). Besides, within the title magnetic recording medium, magnetic layer comprising the dispersed magnetic powder for magnetic recording is arranged in a resin bonding agent at least on one main surface of a supporting body. Through these procedures, this magnetic powder for magnetic recording and the magnetic recording medium using the same capable of enhancing the O/W characteristics without losing the durability and electro-magnetic conversion characteristics can be manufactured.
