Abstract:
PURPOSE:To recover high purity Cd from a scrap material contg. Ni-Cd by an easy operation by immersing the scrap material in a soln. contg. ammonium sulfate to leach the Cd and by electrolyzing the soln. contg. the leached Cd to electrodeposit metallic Cd. CONSTITUTION:A scrap material contg. Ni-Cd such as the scrap electrode plate 1 of a storage battery is immersed in a soln. contg. ammonium sulfate or dilute sulfuric acid to nearly selectively leach the Cd from the material. The resulting soln. contg. the leached Cd is introduced into an electrolytic cell 6 fitted with a pair of anodes 4 and a cathode 5 without using a diaphragm and the soln. is electrolyzed as an electrolytic soln. to electrodeposit Cd on the cathode 5. High purity Cd is recovered without requiring an expensive reagent.
