Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the title optical material having high transparency, heat resistance and refractive index by casting a mixture of a bifunctional (meth) acrylate, an aromatic vinyl and a comonomer together with a radical polymerization initiator to a mold, gradually raising temperature, polymerizing and curing. CONSTITUTION:The objective optical material having low density and excellent impact strength, comprising a resin obtained by subjecting a polymerizable monomer mixture composed of (A) 30-80wt.% one or more of bifunctional (meth) acrylates (e.g. tetramethylene glycol dimethacrylate) shown by the formula (R<1>, R<2> and R<4> are H or CH3; n is 3-18 integer), (B) 20-70wt.% one or more aromatic vinyl monomers (e.g. styrene) and (C) 0-50wt.% one or more of polymerizable monomer (e.g. methyl methacrylate) having a polymerizable double bond and >=98 molecular weight and a polymerizable oligomer to radical polymerization.
