PURPOSE: To produce a new compd. useful as agents for treating arterial hypertension and atherosclerosis or the like since it has peculiar antagonism for angiotensin II.
CONSTITUTION: The compd. of the formula I [R1 is 1-8C chain alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl or the like; R2 is H, halogen or the like; R3 is 1-4C chain alkyl substituted with chain alkoxy, -CO-R5 (R5 is H, phenoxy or the like) or the like; R4 is H, 1-6C chain alkyl or the like; and A is 3-8 membered saturated heterocyclic rings bonded via N atom and having hetero atoms up to 2 of S, N or the like] and the salt thereof such as (S)-4-[(2-butyl-5-formylimidazolyl) methyl]-3-chlorobenzenesulfonyl-N-(2-tertiary-butoxycarbonyl)pirrolidinide. The compd. is obtd. by bringing the aldehydes of the formula II to react with the compd. of the formula III (W is halogen), thereafter oxidizing or reducing the aldehyde functional group as the product and next subjecting the product, e.g. to esterification.
