Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for acromelic acid known as a strong psychostimulating amino acid in extremely high effi ciency by cyclizing a specific aldehyde compound and oxidizing with Dess-Martin reagent.
CONSTITUTION: This compound of the formula II (Ha is β-H or α-H) is produced by cyclizing an aldehyde compound of the formula I by intramolecular Diels- Alder reaction under irradiation of light and oxidizing the obtained secondary alcohol compound with Dess-Martin reagent. The aldehyde compound is produced preferably by desilylating a diester compound of the formula III and oxidizing with the above reagent.
