Abstract:
A device (34) for cleaning and servicing a weld site about the periphery of an extending control rod drive mechanism (26) and adapter tube (28) including a housing (40) adapted to be positioned adjacent to and rotated about the periphery of the control rod drive mechanism (26) and a carriage assembly (46) including an inner (66) and outer (68) portion reciprocably received within the housing (40). Mounted within the housing (40) is a first drive motor (42) for driving a threaded lead screw (38) rotatably mounted within the housing (40) with an internally threaded follower (44) secured to the carriage assembly (46) and mating with the threaded lead screw (36) for reciprocating the carriage assembly (46) relative to the housing in a direction substantially parallel to the control rod drive mechanism (26). A second drive motor (84) is reciprocably mounted within the carriage assembly (46) for receiving and driving a tool attachment (42), and a third drive motor (64) for reciprocating the second drive motor (84) and the tool attachment (92) in a direction substantially perpendicular to the control rod drive mechanism (26) are provided. The third drive motor (64) is similarly connected to a second lead screw (38) rotatably mounted within the inner portion (66) of the carriage assembly (46) with a second internally threaded follower assembly (58, 60) mating with the lead screw (38) for displacing the outer portion (68) relative to the inner portion (66) so that the tool attachment (92) is remotely positioned relative to the control rod drive mechanism (26) by operation of the first (42) and third (64) drive motors.
