Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the sheath of a self-supporting type optical cable by continuously molding with an extrusion molding machine and simultaneously to form slits by cutting off the neck parts connecting an optical fiber unit wire and a supporting wire at each regular interval in the longitudinal direction of the cable. SOLUTION: The extrusion molding machine for continuously molding the sheath of the self-supporting type optical cable is provided with a die 20. At the molding of the optical cable of the self-supporting type integrated by this die 20, a pin 8 for cutting the neck parts is arranged in front of a hole forming the neck parts connecting the optical fiber unit wire 1 and the supporting wire 2. This pin 8 is fitted into the resin periodically forming the neck parts to cut the neck parts. The resin of the cut neck parts is passed through a resin escape hole 9 opened near the front end of the pin 8 and is released outside, by which the slits are formed.
