PURPOSE: To detect all kinds of faults generated in an insulated power cable line by respectively performing partial discharge measurement, a DC withstand voltage test and a withstand voltage test due to a damped vibration wave two or more times using DC voltage of positive polarity and DC voltage of negative polarity.
CONSTITUTION: With respect to a rubber/plastic insulated power cable line, the partial discharge of a test line K is measured in the boosting process of the test line K while the test line K is charged with DC voltage of negative polarity from a DC voltage generator J through a charge resistor R. For example, after the completion of the charge with voltage of 354kV, a DC withstand voltage test is performed. Thereafter, a discharge gap M is operated to generate a damped vibration wave and the withstand voltage test due to the damped vibration wave is performed. The polarity of the DC voltage generator J is converted to positive polarity to perform the same tests. The above mentioned tests are repeated two or more times to complete a test. By this constitution, all of faults having possibility reaching dielectric breakdown can be detected.
