Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for preformed chemical mediator, etc., by reducing an aromatic carboxylic acid containing trifluoromethyl group as a raw mateiral, and to improve yield, by carrying out the reaction in a specific solvent in the presence of a catalyst under a mild condition. CONSTITUTION:A trifluoromethyl group-containing aromatic carboxylic acid shown by formula I (R is H, 1-3C perfluoroalkyl, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; m and n are 1 or 2) as a raw material is reacted in the presence of a hydrogenating catalyst (preferably metal of platinum group, especially rhodium or platinum is used) by the use of preferably 1-20 times as much a fluorinated alcohol as a solvent as the raw material compound shown by formula I at 50-200 deg.C at 5-20kg/cm<2> to give the aimed compound. The fluorinated alcohol useful as the solvent is shown by formula II (R<1> is 1-3C perfluoroalkyl; R<2> and R<3> are H, 1-3C perfluoroalkyl, etc.).
