PURPOSE: To enable exact management and to provide the various kinds of retrieval information concerning a retrieving book by exchanging information between data storage parts each other and managing a managing object based on managing information.

CONSTITUTION: The data storage part is composed of an IC card 2 or the like loading a microprocessor and registers the required managing information concerning the book inside. Only when the book provided with the IC card 2 is set at a prescribed position on a book shelf 1, namely, at a position where the connecting part of the IC card 2 and a data bus 3 are suitably linked, it is regarded each IC card 2 is linked with the data bus 3, and the information can be exchanged with the IC card 2 mounted at the other book as well. Concerning a method for connection to the data bus 3, a connector is provided at each IC card 2 and linked with the bus. Otherwise, it is connected to the data bus with no contact by using radio or magneticism. Further, the data bus 3 is not used at all but a communicating function is added, and the information is exchanged by radio communication or optical communication.
