PURPOSE: To accurately detect the end point of a PCM section by comparing the count value of a control means with the final value of a PCM signal and then using the output as a reference timing when a block address is judged to be an error.
CONSTITUTION: A clock is reproduced according to the output signal of a reproduction amplifier in a data strobe 108 and at the same time a data 0/1 is output to a protection circuit 109 via a demodulation circuit 118 as a determined signal in synchronization with the block. The circuit 109 detects a synchronizing signal by a synchronizing signal detection circuit 113 according to the output signal of the strobe 108, checks continuity at an address continuity check circuit 114, and then performs error detection at an error detection circuit 115. Then, a judgment circuit 116 determines an error according to the information from the circuits 114 and 115. When it is determined that an error occurred, the value of a block address is ignored and is counted up and the count value is compared with the final value of the address of the PCM signal, thus accurately detecting the end point of the PCM section with the result as the reference timing for recording and reproducing the area.
