PURPOSE: To generate a pilot signal having the large level without making the error rate worse by generating the pilot signal by a recording bit string itself.
CONSTITUTION: Outputs of each run pattern generating circuit 1, 2, 3, each SYNC generating circuit 4, 5, 6, each ID-L generating circuit 7, 8, 9, and each ID-U generating circuit 10, 11, 12 are outputted to changeover circuits 15, 16, 17, 18 in accordance with values '0', '1', '2' outputted by a period generating circuit 14. The outputs of the changeover circuits 15, 16, 17, 18 are changed over by a control signal from a data changeover circuit 20, then data of G1 and ITI are outputted from a changeover circuit 19. At the time when the region to generate the pilot signal is arranged by the recording data system itself, the disparity for every ten bits of this region is made to be ±2 or 0.
