Abstract:
The resistance to tread wear of vehicule tires can be maintained or improved through the use of a tread rubber molding composition that includes from about 20 % to about 80 % by weight of a treated particulate rubber material. The latter material comprises cured rubber particules that have been surface treated with a liquid, sulfur-curable polymeric binder that has ethylenic unsaturation and that is soluble in benzene, hexane or both, the binder acting to soften the cured rubber particle surfaces to which it is applied.
