PURPOSE: To provide a guide of such contents as coinciding with a driver's natural expectation by adopting a distance up to the near end of a road crossing an intersection as a distance thereto.

CONSTITUTION: A navigation device informs a driver of various guide information through an audio output section. CPU subtracts a half D/2 of the breadth D of a crossing intersection from a distance L between the intersection and a vehicle. Then, when the distance (L-D/2) reaches the predetermined value, a signal is sent to the audio output section. The audio output section, upon receipt of the signal, synthesizes an aural signal by assigning the preset distance to a portion of xyz in a typical sentence to the effect. 'Turn to the left after a travel along xyz meters'. Then, the synthesized aural signal is amplified and sounded to inform a driver or the like of a distance up to the approach end of the next intersection and a method to pass the intersection. According to this construction, such a guide as coinciding with the driver's expectation can be provided on the basis of an actual distance up to the approach end of the intersection.
