Title:
ICE BREAKER UTILIZING ARCHIMEDIAN SCREW
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS57104488
Kind Code:

Abstract:

PURPOSE: To perform ice breaking efficiently by arranging a pair of right and left Archimedian screws directly under the bow in the longitudinal direction of the ship, and drive the bow on the ice-plate applying a part of the ship's weight downwards through the screws.

CONSTITUTION: A pair of right and left Archimedian screws 1 are arranged directly under the bow 2 in the longitudinal direction of the ship, being rotatably driven unrestrictedly. The end of the screw 1 is projected up on the water line so that the blade 8 prepared around it can be brought in contact with the ice plate 3. When the said screws are rotated, the both blades 8 ride on the ice plate 3, and the ice plate will be broken when it cannot bear the weight.
