Abstract:
To provide a technique capable of eliminating concerns about a starting delay phenomenon in an anti-icing system for an aircraft.SOLUTION: Ice detection systems 102 for aircraft and related methods are disclosed. A disclosed example ice detection system 102 includes: a thermochromic device 142 to sense a temperature of free stream air relative to a temperature threshold value; a hydrochromic device 144 to sense an amount of moisture in the free stream air relative to a humidity threshold value; and a controller 152 to detect an icing condition in response to the thermochromic device 142 sensing a temperature that is less than or equal to the temperature threshold value and the hydrochromic device 144 sensing the amount of moisture that exceeds the humidity threshold value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
