To provide an ice making machine that properly detects the occurrence of abnormal conditions in an ice making section, and to provide a method of operating the ice making machine.
The first temperature sensor 40 for detecting the outlet part 14A temperature of the outlet part 14A is arranged in the outlet part of an evaporating pipe 14 and the second temperature sensor 42 for detecting the middle part temperature of the middle part 14B in the middle part 14B of the evaporating pipe 14A in a longitudinal direction of the same. A control device 50 has a timer 54 starting count by starting the ice making operation and an temperature comparator 52. The temperature comparator 52 obtains the outlet part temperature by the first temperature sensor 40 and the middle part temperature by the second temperature sensor 42 respectively by starting the ice making operation, calculates the maximum temperature difference between both the temperatures when the timer 54 counts the set time set in advance, compares the maximum temperature difference and the threshold value set in advance to detect the presence of the occurrence of abnormal conditions in the ice making section 10.
