PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an identifying method and an identifying device capable of recognizing the existence/absence or types of objects to be measured with high by reducing the influence of an approximation between a background color and the color of an object to be measured. SOLUTION: White line parts of a crosswalk are set to a first identification area, and parts other than the white line parts are set to a second identification area. First and second-temporal images to be reference are generated in advance in the first and second identification areas with no existence of objects to be measured. A first spatio-temporal image generated on the basis of image data obtained from the first identification area, a second spatio-temporal image generated on the basis of image data obtained from the second identification area, and the first and second reference spatio-temporal images are used to generate a difference spatio-temporal image. The existence/absence or types of objects to be measured are identified on the basis of the generated difference spatio-temporal image.
