To certainly select objects having an abnormal outline without requiring prior registration of normal outline data, by selecting two positions whose outlines are same because of their formation by at least same forming means, measuring and comparing the two outlines, and separating objects for which two outlines are different from each other from objects for which two outlines are same.
Two light sources 112 radiates a linear light beam toward first position and second position, respectively, in bead part 102B of a tire 102 which is supported by a supporting arm 106. The beam bends according to the outline of the bead part 102B. The first and second positions are diametric in the tire 102. When two outlines are different each other the bead part 102B has abnormal configuration. Light receiving sensors 114 receive light reflected from regions which respectively contain the first and second positions. A mirror of an image reversing component 126 reverses data which is converted into an electric signal, and directs two images in the same direction, and image data comparing component 130 compares the images. A resultant signal judging component 132 outputs the judgment results.
