PURPOSE: To ensure stable identification of a stroke form with a small change of distance despite a minute change of a coordinate point train changes remarkably the direction of said spot train, by using a distance to each curve for identification between an input coordinate point train and each curve.
CONSTITUTION: An input coordinate point train X is supplied to M units of parameter calculating circuits 11W1m for approximate curves to perform calculations with approximate curves respectively to output parameters P1WPm. Then resemblance degree calculating circuits 21W2m calculate a distance D to each approximate curve on the basis of each calculating equation. At the same time, resemblance degrees S1WSm are obtained as the reciprocal numbers. An identified curve deciding circuit 3 obtains an identified curve jO having the maximum product between the resemblance degree Sj of each approximate curve to the input coordinate point train and a proper compensation constant Cj to the resemblance degree Sj to a curve j in case M types of subject curve exist. An identified curve parameter deciding circuit 4 delivers a parameter PjO corresponding to the curve jO.
