Abstract:

PURPOSE: To form an ignition device which is compact, light, smile, and inexpensive.
CONSTITUTION: A primary side piezoelectric element 5 and a secondary side piezoelectric element 6 are combined with each other, input electrodes 7, 8 are arranged in a thickness direction, and a booster 2 which is composed of a piezoelectric element made trans in which an output electrode 9 is arranged in a longitudinal direction is housed in a plug cap 3. One end of an ignition plug 4 is covered with the plug cap 3. When a primary voltage having the natural resonance frequency of a piezoelectric element or the same waveform as an element waveform thereof is applied on input electrodes 7, 8 by a primary voltage generating means 1 in this condition, secondary voltage having high voltage is directly applied from an output electrode 9 onto the ignition plug 4 by a piezoelectric effect in the booster 2, and then spark discharge is carried out between discharge gaps in a combustion chamber.
