Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect other equipment from overvoltage when a load dump state occurs in an ignition device for an internal combustion engine that adopts a battery as a return destination of an electric current made to flow in a primary coil by operating a second circuit.SOLUTION: A return circuit 35 of an ignition device 1 causes an electric current made to flow in a primary coil 2 by operating a second circuit 12 to return to a battery 20, and a voltage detection section 40 detects voltage VB. An operation stop section 42 monitors the voltage VB, and stops input of energy by the second circuit 12 when determining that the voltage VB is excessive, that is, determining that the voltage VB exceeds threshold voltage VBc. Thus, when a load dump state occurs, the energy input by the second circuit 12 can be stopped. Therefore, when the load damp state occurs, other equipment can be protected from overvoltage by operating the second circuit 12.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
