To provide an illuminating device capable of keeping the illuminance of an object to be illuminated at a constant level by regulating the output of a light source side in conformance with a variation in a light amount even if there is the variation in the light amount reaching the object to be illuminated such as a panel for some cause in the illuminating device, and to provide a liquid crystal display using the same.
In the illuminating device to illuminate the object to be illuminated such as a liquid crystal panel 7 by light emitted from the light source such as an LED or a fluorescent tube, a light detecting means installed between the light source and the object to be illuminated and detecting the amount of light emitted from the light source, and an output regulating means regulating the output of the light source based on the light amount detected by the light detecting means are provided. In this case, a light guide plate is provided between the light source and the object to be illuminated, and the light detecting means includes a detector which detects light passing through the light guide plate.
