Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device that offers minimized illumination irregularity and color balance adjustment capability, and to provide a projector having the same.SOLUTION: An illumination device includes a light source unit that emits excitation light, a wavelength conversion element, and a spot adjustment optical system for adjusting the size of a spot of excitation light formed on the wavelength conversion element. In a cross-section of the wavelength conversion element that includes the center of the spot formed on the wavelength conversion element by the excitation light, the wavelength conversion element has a first optical element, a second optical element, and a third optical element provided between the first optical element and the second optical element, where the third optical element is located at the center of the spot, and where hue of light exiting the first optical element is the same as hue of light exiting the second optical element.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
