To restrain luminance degradation of an illumination light in an illumination device for outputting light with signals for communication superimposed.
The illumination device 1 is provided with a light source 2, a chassis 6 for storing the light source 2, a light control member 4 for transmitting light emitted from the light source 2, a light adjusting controller 5 for changing light transmittance of the light control member 4 by impressing voltage on that 4. Since the light control member 4 is attached only to a part of a light-emitting aperture 60 of the chassis 6, only a part of the illumination light from the light source 2 is used as a signal for communication, so that luminance degradation of the illumination light is restrained at the time of visible light communication and non-communication.
