The illumination light source comprises: a surface emitting laser 2 in which a plurality of coherent light emitting points are arranged in one-dimensional array; a beam shaping optical system 4 that shapes a light beam so that a diameter of a light emitted from the surface emitting laser 2 in a direction perpendicular to a direction of the light emitting point array is larger than a diameter in the direction of the light emitting point array, and that an intensity distribution of the light emitted from each of the light emitting points is uniform; an optical fiber 6; and a focusing optical system 5 in which a magnification is set such that a light emitted from the beam shaping optical system 4 is coupled to the optical fiber 6, based on the maximum diameter of the light emitted from the beam shaping optical system 4.
