Abstract:
To provide a small and bright illumination optical system.SOLUTION: Color separation in a color separation system is performed by only one cross dichroic mirror and one dichroic mirror, and optical path lengths of three optical paths from incidence to first to third image display elements coincide with each other. When a surface including an optical axis and normal line of two color combining surfaces is defined as first cross section and a surface including the optical axis perpendicular to the first cross section is defined as second cross section, maximum incident angle of an effective ray into a combining prism in the first cross section is larger than maximum incident angle of the effective ray into the combining prism in the second cross section.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
