PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination system which can realize a color image without color wheel and to provide a projection system which adopts the same.
SOLUTION: The illumination system is characterized in that it includes at least one light emitting device 40 for emitting a light beam having a different wavelength, a focusing lens 45 for condensing the light beam emitted from the light emitting device 40, and a wave guide 50 having an incident surface 48 inclined at a predetermined angle, where the light beam condensed by the focusing lens 45 is incident. The projection system includes at least one light emitting device for emitting a light beam having a different wavelength, a focusing lens for condensing the light beam emitted from the light emitting device, a wave guide having an incident surface inclined at a predetermined angle on which the light beam condensed by the focusing lens is made incident, a display device for forming an image by processing the light beam passing through the wave guide according to an input image signal, and a projection lens unit for magnifying the image formed by the display device and projecting the magnified image toward a screen.
