PURPOSE: To provide an illuminator for a display part for an equipment in a vehicle capable of obtaining high availability of light and uniform brightness and preventing projection onto a front glass, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display 4 provided in the vehicle is constituted of a light source L, a directive emission property light scatter light transmission element 41 of a nearly wedge shape, a light emission direction correction element PR, a liquid crystal panel LP and reflection bodies R, R'. A light made incident on the light scatter light transmission element 41 from a light incident surface 42 is guided to a terminal part 45 through the light scatter light transmission element 41. In the process, a back light H is gradually taken out from a take-out surface 43. The back light H is provided with clear directivity, and its main propagation direction is made upward by about 20° to 30° to the light take-out surface 43. Further, the back light H is made incident on the light emission direction correction element PR for correcting a light emission direction from an illuminator as needed, and becomes the light shown by the arrow H' to be made incident on the liquid crystal panel LP. A display light H" propagating in the direction nearly parallel to the H' is emitted from the liquid crystal panel, and a driver 1 observes a bright display image.
