Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve the utilization efficiency of light of an illuminator for supplying exit light to a light valve, etc., through an integrator.
SOLUTION: The outer side of an opening 22 on an incident side 20a of the integrator 20 of the illuminator 10 is provided with an outer mirror 60 which is flared to a collar shape to reflect the incident light 71a failed to be inputted to the opening 22 from a light source section 12 to return the light to a reflector 14 of the light source section 12 and to guide this light again to the opening 22 of the integrator 20. As a result, the utilization efficiency of the light can be further improved even if the size of the opening 22 is not increased.
