Abstract:

To provide an apparatus and a method that select a highlight scene suitable to three-dimensional (3D) image display.

The image capturing apparatus which records photographed images from a plurality of viewpoints records subject distance information measured by each of image capturing units corresponding to the respective viewpoints as photograph image attribute information. In highlight scene selection processing, the subject distance information from the plurality of image capturing units is applied to determine whether a subject is located at a center area of a photograph image and an image with the subject determined to be located at the center area is selected, as a highlight scene. Further, it is determined whether the subject is approaching and then an image is selected as a highlight scene when the subject is approaching. With this configuration, highlight scene selection suitable for three-dimensional (3D) image display is actualized.
