Abstract:

PURPOSE: To encode/decode an image representing luminance and transparency being components of hierarchical images separated in the relation of the depth in the line of light directions.
CONSTITUTION: This coder is provided with a modification analyzer 201 that takes correlation between a luminance plane and an α plane representing a transparency and extracts a modification parameter expressed by affine transformation and movement of a block and with a modification compositing unit 202 producing a predicted image from the result of decoding of a preceding frame and the result of the modification analyzer 201. Then a predicted image consists of the luminance plane and the α plane and a difference of them is subject to error coding and an outputted bit stream consists of an affine transformation parameter, a block movement parameter, a luminance plane error code and an α plane error code.
