Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce data volume equivalent to rate conversion from 4:2:2 to 4:1:1 without requiring a post filter and a data processing circuit for thinning data and to obtain high coding efficiency.
CONSTITUTION: A blocking circuit 12 divides brightness data and color difference data into blocks each of which consisting of n×n elements in spatial arrangement. A DCT circuit 13 executes the rectangular conversion of the brightness data of each block and the color difference data of each block by means of respective cosine functions to calculate the conversion coefficient of the brightness data and that of the color difference data. A quantizing circuit 14 quantizes the conversion coefficients of the color difference data by setting up the horizontal high frequency component of the conversion coefficient of the color difference data to zero and the high frequency component of the conversion coefficient of the brightness data to zero to form quantized data and outputs the quantized data.
