PURPOSE: To enable the retransmission of a page by parallelly executing the read and accumulation of picture information from an original, transmitting the accumulated picture information, successively deleting the picture information of the page, for which transmission is normally completed, and reducing the capacity of a memory.

CONSTITUTION: According to a command from a read control part 81 in a control part 80, an original read part 1 reads and encodes 2 one page of the original. A memory control part 83 inputs data for one encoded 2 page to a memory 3 and simultaneously, the original of the next page is parallelly read. The data of the memory 3 are sent through a buffer memory 4 to a MODEM 5. A communication control part 82 sends out the output of the MODEM 5 through a network control part 6 to a communication line L. The picture memory of the page, for which the transmission is completed without abnormality, is successively deleted by the memory control part 83. Thus, even when the amount of the transmission is large, it is not necessary to increase the capacity of the memory, and retransmission is executed for each page.
