PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain efficient transmission by allowing a transmitter side to send contour blocks with error correction coding and to send non-contour blocks with error detection coding and allowing a receiver side to reproduce frames through interpolation when any error is detected in a non-contour block.
SOLUTION: A contour block sorting device 13 stores one pattern of a received original image and discriminates the image whether or not it corresponds to a contour block in the unit of coded blocks and generates a contour discrimination table and provides an output of the table to a communication control section 4. The control section 4 stores the contour discrimination table from the sorting device 13 and applies error correction coding to the contour discrimination table to generate a transmission frame and provides an output of the frame to a modulator 6. Upon the receipt of coded data from a Huffman coder 3, a number representing a position is added to the data and an error correction coder 16 codes the resulting data to generate a transmission frame and provides an output of the frame to the modulator 6. Upon the receipt of data of a non-contour block from the coder 3, a number representing a position is added to the data and an error detection coder 5 codes the resulting data to generate a transmission frame and provides an output of the frame to the modulator 6.
