PURPOSE: To provide an image data filing system having a communicating function which can be easily used in a daily photo arranging sense and without requiring any special technical knowledge nor skill.

CONSTITUTION: This data filing system includes a digital electronic still camera 1 which records the image data of an external memory 2, an image reading device 3, an image data processing means 4 which contains a display device 4a, a storage 4b, a compressing/expanding device 4c and a control/processing device 4d, and a communication means 5. The reduced image data corresponding to the image data stored in the memory 2 are shown on the device 4a in a list as a negative screen where a negative film is framed. Meanwhile the reduced image data corresponding to the image data stored in the storage 4b are displayed in a list as a photo screen. Then these negative or photo screen is selected for execution of the copying, moving and deleting operations. Thus the image data are filed. In a communication mode, the transmitting destination screens are shown in a list based on the reduced image data and selected. As a result, the desired image data and reduced image data are transmitted together with the reduced image data which are displayed on the transmitting destination screens.
